CELLO STRINGS

There are many factors to make the decision when choosing the right strings for the cello. A priori, the easiest choice is for beginner cellists, since they only have to choose the size of the instrument (1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or 4/4) and the range of strings is limited. At Celloshop we have strings for small cellos from the brands D'Addario Prelude, For-Tune Charm, Jargar Young Talent, Fractional Larsen and Pirastro Piranito. Any of them is recommendable and has enough quality for a young cellist.

The range of strings for professionals is very wide and the choice of one string or another will have a great influence not only on the sonority of the instrument, but also on the technique used by the cellist to enterin  the string with the bow: There are strings that work better with more bow speed, others that support the weight of the bow better near the bridge, strings with a faster response and others that are slower but have a rounder sound.

The characteristics of each string commes from the materials used in its manufacture and in addition to the tension with which each string reaches the right tuning at 440 Hz. Most brands manufacture their strings with strong, medium and soft tension. At Celloshop.com we indicate the tension of each string in Kg, since we believe that the final decision has to take this factor into account, which is extremely important to learn to combine some strings with others. Of course, the last word to choose is the ear and the sensations of the cello player.
